Kristi Visocky Memorial Foundation
The Kristi Visocky Memorial Foundation, a.k.a. Kristi’s Fund, was created in memory of Kristi Visocky who was killed in an auto accident in May of 2003 at the age of 21. Determined to keep alive the spirit and compassion of a young woman who was a strong champion of the underdog and supporter of troubled youth, the fund was set up to provide scholarships and assistance to area young people.

The young women who have benefited from the Kristi Visocky Memorial Scholarship are the very types Kristi supported, young, displaced girls and single moms, working to pull their life back together and create a better life for themselves or their families. One such woman, a single mom of three little boys, who was embarking on nursing school, put it this way when told she would receive a $2000 scholarship to Front Range Community College, “You don’t know what this means to me. It’s not just the money for school, it’s that you believe in me and believe that I can do this!”

Kristi’s Fund is supported by the generous donations of individuals as well as the proceeds from the Kristi Visocky Memorial Golf Tournament. The tournament was first organized in 2003, shortly after Kristi’s death, by Kristi’s two brothers Jason and Adam. In a matter of weeks, these young men pulled together over 236 players, supporters and sponsors and kicked off the first annual Kristi Visocky Memorial Golf Tournament on the weekend of Kristi’s birthday, July 29. The first tournament raised $5000 and proceeds were given to The Center for Community Justice Partnerships, a program that works with at-risk youth.

The 2nd annual golf tournament held in July of 2004 included 264 golfers and raised over $18,000. Four $1000 scholarships to area young women were given out. Other recipients included The Center for Community Justice Partnerships and Project Self-Sufficiency.

In 2005, a second event was added to the mix, a Friday Kick Off party called “Kristi’s Big Night Out. Over 400 people attended the event which included food provided by 12 area restaurants, a silent auction, and music by the well-known group After the Fire. Sunday’s tournament hosted 284 golfers, making it the largest golf tournament in the city of Fort Collins. $28,000 was raised for Kristi’s Fund. Four $2000 scholarships were distributed as well as $4000 given to the Center for Community Justice Partnerships.

Scholarships are awarded to area young women based on need, goals and circumstances, and are offered for both traditional and non-traditional studies including hair design, massage school, culinary school, metal working, etc.

Plans are already underway for the 2006 Kristi Visocky Memorial Golf Tournament and Kristi’s Big Night Out which will be held the weekend of July 21-23. Poem By Kristi

KRISTI
BITCHY, FLIRTATIOUS, FUN, OUTSPOKEN
SISTER OF JASON, ADAM, AND JENNY
LOVER OF MUSIC, DOLPHINS, AND MY FAMILY
WHO FEELS ALONE EACH NIGHT WHEN I GO TO SLEEP,
FEISTY WHEN I FIND SOMETHING ELSE TO ARGUE ABOUT,
AND OVERWHELMED WITH ALL THE CHOICES COMING UP IN MY LIFE.
WHO NEEDS LOTS OF ATTENTION, MY MOTHER, AND PLENTY OF SLEEP.
WHO GIVES A SHOULDER TO CRY ON WHEN FRIENDS ARE IN NEED,
MY HEART TO THE ANIMALS AT THE HUMANE SOCIETY,
AND GIVES AN OPINION WHEN I FEEL SOMETHING IS WRONG.
WHO FEARS BEING ALONE WHEN I GROW OLD,
LOSING MY MOTHER, AND BEING ORDINARY.
WHO WOULD LIKE TO SEE MY GRANDCHILDREN BE BORN,
A WOMAN BECOME PRESIDENT,
AND TRAVEL AROUND THE WORLD.
RESIDENT OF FORT COLLINS: MAROON
